For the Week of:
December 9 -
The Lamplighter is the weekly newsletter of the First Baptist Chuch of Hamburg, Arkansas.
What a wonderful start we got this past Sunday morning toward out Lottie Moon Offering goal of $25,000!!!! Our deacons, staff, deacon widows, and deacon and staff wives gave $13,300 toward the offering goal. That is well over half our total and quite an example of the sacrificial giving needed to reach our goal and provide financial support for our almost 5,000 International Missionaries.
I want to encourage everyone who has not yet given to the Lottie Moon Offering to give your generous gift very soon. I hope we can reach and exceed our offering goal before Christmas.
Thank you, Adult Choir, for the beautiful worship song last Sunday morning. Thank you for singing with passion. Come Make a Place has been one of my favorite songs to sing around Christmas since I heard it several years ago. For me, it never gets old.
Thank you, Youth Choir, for the great singing last Sunday night. You sang with strength and conviction. I especially want to thank Reeves Davis, Jacob Hollis and Daniel Livingston for the live instruments. This is a first for us, but it won’t be the last.
I hope all of you will make plans to be here next Sunday night for the Adult Choir presentation. If I were going to title this, it would probably be Born in Me. That’s what this story is about. Jesus was born to the earth, but until He is born in each one of us, His coming is in vain. Join us Sunday night at 6:30 in the auditorium.
It was good to see Jim Yarbrough behind the sound board. Jim is feeling better and ready to ease back into this ministry. Let me also say how much I appreciate Bryan Hollis, Cline Yarbrough, Eddy Tucker, DeWayne Massey and Brad Shiver for the many hours they give to this ministry.
We had a great time last week. We went to the mall for some shopping and eating. Even though the weather was bad and wet, we still had a great time. I’m still trying to find a time to go look at lights. I’ll let you know.
Parents, please remember to turn in the remaining balance for the trip to Xtreme Winter in Branson by December 22nd. The balance for each participant is $50!
This year, we’re going to Doe River Gorge in Tennessee. There is a $100 deposit which needs to be turned in by this Wednesday night. Although the cost of the trip is $300, fundraisers could help bring the cost to no more than the deposit. For more information about Doe River Gorge, visit doerivergorge.com
Remember that our youth are selling Little Caesar’s pizza kits to raise money for the trip. If a student doesn’t contact you, try contacting one of them or call the church office!
As I went to place our order for pizzas, I discovered that students didn’t sell enough to make the minimum order, so I was able to buy us more time to sell. The new date to turn in final order is December 14th, with a delivery date of December 23rd. Sell, sell, sell!!!!!

I got a call this week about our possible involvement in Super Winter (not xtreme winter in Branson). Normally, Super Winter happens every two years, but we’ve decided to have it again this year. It takes place over the Martin Luther King weekend in January. I am still compiling the information and I will get it to you as soon as possible, but please plan on attending. It will be a great way to start 2014.
Thank you for the cards and all other expressions of love and thoughtfulness for our 50th anniversary. God has been good to give us fifty (50) years together.
